Over 50 of the largest companies in Ireland have publicly committed to halve their direct carbon footprint between now and 2030. This is the result of Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI)’s Low Carbon Pledge, launched in 2018 to support member companies in reducing their carbon footprint.

In the 2nd edition of the Report “Business Working Together for a Low Carbon Ireland”, BITCI and PwC showed the significant progress made by the signatory companies in reducing their carbon emissions intensity. The average emissions intensity reduction per pledge company increased from 36% in 2018 to 41% in 2019.

“Building a new economic model as a result of the pandemic requires significant investment, innovative technology and a new social contract that leaves no one behind. This is a once in a generation opportunity to set the foundations for an inclusive, fair and just net zero economy”, declared Tomás Sercovich, CEO of BITCI.

CSR Europe supports the transition to a carbon neutral, inclusive, sustainable and circular economy with respect for human rights across all stages of the Value Chain.

If we want to make the Europe the world's first climate neutral continent, leading companies need to bring along their sectors- and/or value chain peers and work together with other stakeholders to transform the entire ecosystem.

For this reason, after calling for an overarching sustainable Europe 2030 strategy, CSR Europe is now inviting businesses, industry federations, and policymakers to incubate and scale-up collaborations in the framework of the European Pact for Sustainable Industry.
